Mill Valley, CA (February 20, 2005)-Two new directors were added to the volunteer committee that produces the Annual Dipsea footrace, bringing the total to five.
They are Darrell White of Rohnert Park and Robert Anderson of Novato.
Darrell has been responsible for the last five years for assuring that the equipment needed to stage the race each year is in place on race day and is safely stored and protected for the rest of the year. He is also a competitive runner, qualifying and running each year in the difficult Invitational section of the race. He is a San Rafael firefighter.
Bob Anderson has been in charge of the starting line activities for ten years and has been involved with the race as a volunteer for 17 years. Bob is a retired engineering manager in the Cal-Trans organization.
The other members of the committee are Edda Stickle, of Novato, the Race Director and a competitive runner, Bob Knez, of Mill Valley, and Merv Regan, Sausalito.
The Dipsea Foundation, the charitable non-profit corporation that is dedicated to preserving the race and the trail and encouraging youth to become active in cross country running, also elected new directors. They are Leon Huntting, Sausalito, and Michael Creedman, San Francisco, both long-time Dipsea volunteers.
Huntting has been in charge of volunteers and has run the race many times. He is a mortgage banking executive and, with his wife Sallie, is active in Bay Areas charitable organizations.
Creedman has run the race or served as a volunteer since 1978. A journalist and personal historian, he is now communications director for the race.
The Annual Dipsea race is the oldest cross country race in America, celebrating its Centennial Anniversary this year. The Dipsea race this year will be run on June 12th.
