GENERAL INFORMATION

The 86'th annual Dipsea Race will be run on June 9'th, 1996. Each runner receives headstart minutes based upon their age and gender. There are two race sections. The first group in the Individual Section starts promptly at 8:30 am. The first group in the Dipsea Runner Section starts at 8:53 am. The course starts at Lytton Square in downtown Mill Valley, California, then proceeds through Muir Woods, around the slopes of Mount Tamalpias and down to the finish line at Stinson Beach. The course will be marked, but potential race leaders should familiarize themselves with the route. The course is open, except at certain locations (see map - soon to be included). The distance is approximately 7.1 miles.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

To alleviate crowded conditions on the trail, we must limit the field to 1,500 entrants, 700 who are considered Invitational and 800 designated as Dipsea Runners. Unregistered runners will not be permitted to start or finish the race. Athletes under 18 years of age must have a parent's or guardian's signature on their entry form and must have a parent or guardian at the race. Because the course is narrow and rugged, responsibility for children lies with their parents or guardians. We recommend that first time entrants familiarize themselves with the trail before race day.

HEADSTART TABLES

So that people of all ages can compete in this race on a more or less equitable basis some runners are allowed to begin the race before others. The following table indicates how much headstart each entrant will receive based on their gender and age. [Webmaster's note, I have no idea how the Dipsea Race directors came to these numbers, if I can find out, I'll post it!]
