Summary
The Finish Area Team Captain(s) is responsible for the set-up and break-down of three general areas. The areas include Spectator Barricades and Finish Chute, Stage and Picnic, and Post Finish Area (roped-off area for funneling of runners for race-chip removal, medals, t-shirts, etc.). Team Captains will work with assigned volunteers to gather equipment and set-up the areas and to break-down and gather equipment from the designated areas and take to the equipment trucks and/or vans for return. This work takes place on the Saturday before the race and on Race Day, after the race has completed. Work may take most of the day to set up and most of the afternoon to break-down and pack.
Volunteers should bring wear work clothes, work shoes, and gloves (wire cutters if you have them to cut cable ties). You may not end up using them but you may be glad you have them when you do need them.
Duties and Responsibilities
Set-up:
- Pull equipment from trucks or vans and take to designated areas
- Finish area barricade and finish chute: Set up pylons and/or fence posting, then cable-tie fencing materials to pylons and fence posting; set up pylons down the middle of finish line road and cable-tie separation rope to the pylons.
- Stage and picnic area: Set up stage, set up pylons for picnic area and attach fencing material with cable-ties.
- Post finish area: set up pylons and attach rope, fencing (w/cable-ties), or caution tape in secondary parking area (most southern parking area) to block off parking area for post race activities, such as, race chip removal, medals, t-shirts, water.
Break-down:
- Finish area barricade and finish chute: Break-down pylons and/or fence posting, which includes cutting of cable-ties on fencing materials from pylons and fence posting; break-down pylons from the middle of finish line road cutting cable-ties from the separation rope. Roll up fencing material and pack, deliver pylons and bases to truck/van, coil-up rope and return to truck/van.
- Stage and picnic area: Break-down pylons and/or fence posting, which includes cutting of cable-ties on fencing materials from pylons and fence posting; Roll up fencing material and pack, deliver pylons and bases to truck/van, coil-up rope and return to truck/van. Disassemble stage and help put it back in truck/van.
- Post finish area: Break-down pylons and/or fence posting, which includes cutting of cable-ties on fencing materials from pylons and fence posting; Roll up fencing material and pack, deliver pylons and bases to truck/van, coil-up rope and return to truck/van.
- Work cooperatively with truck/van drivers to assist the drivers in loading the truck/van correctly. Drivers are fully responsible for how the material gets loaded on the truck/van. Please work with the drives as this can be an arduous task.
